The Leapfrog Group announced new grades for the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, the first and only national health care rating focused on errors, accidents and infections. The program has been assigning A, B, C, D and F letter grades to general acute-care hospitals in the U.S. since 2012. Frankfort Regional Medical Center was one of 823 hospitals to receive an A, ranking among the safest hospitals in the United States. Thirty-nine hospitals in Kentucky received a score in the Spring report, with 12 hospitals receiving an A grade. No hospital in Lexington or Louisville received an 'A'. Leapfrog does not grade specialty or pediatric hospitals.

Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. For the first time, the Hospital Safety Score includes five measures of patient-reported experience with the hospital as well as two of the most common infections, C.diff and MRSA.
